In order to vote in the European Parliament elections in the UK, you must register to vote in advance.

This year, the registration deadline for the EP elections is Tuesday 6 May 2014 at midnight.

In the autumn each year in the UK (except Northern Ireland), local councils conduct a canvass by sending a form to every property. This form asks residents to update the details of the people living there. The information is used to register people to vote whom are eligible.

If you are unsure if you are already registered to vote, you can contact your local council (London borough council websites are listed in the More information section).

If you are eligible, you can register at any time before the deadline. There are several ways to register. This web site explains one of them.

HOW TO REGISTER:

1. Go to Electoral Commission's website and fill out its registration form online.

2. Print and sign the form and post it to your local council at the address indicated.

3. If you are an EU citizen (not from the UK, Ireland, Malta or Cyprus) you must also fill out the European
Parliament voter registration form certifying that you will vote in the UK instead of your home country for the
EP elections. You can wait for your local council to send it to you or you can send it with your registration form.

That's it! If you have not heard from your local council by the beginning of April, you may want to get in touch to make sure everything has been processed (and that they plan to send you the second form, if applicable and you haven't already sent it).
